What is a Head Technician?

The Head Technician is in charge of managing the camera team and ensuring that all camera equipment is set up correctly and functioning properly. They work closely with the Director of Photography to achieve the desired visual aesthetic for the film. The Head Technician also collaborates with the camera operators and assistants to ensure that shots are captured efficiently and effectively.

A Head Technician must possess a strong technical knowledge of various camera systems and equipment, including digital and film cameras, lenses, and accessories. They should have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly on their feet to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise. Attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure are also essential for success in this role.

While a formal college education is not always required for the position of Head Technician, most individuals in this role have completed some form of technical training or certification programs related to camera equipment. Additionally, hands-on experience working with camera equipment on film sets is highly beneficial in preparing for this role.
