Saturation Achieves SOC 1 Type 1 Compliance

Saturation, the production budgeting and financial management platform used by thousands of film, television, and commercial productions, today announced it has achieved SOC 1 Type 1 certification. The achievement adds a second major compliance credential alongside the company’s SOC 2 Type 1 certification earned in January 2026, and reflects the depth of financial controls required when a platform handles not just budget data, but real money movement: production bank accounts, expense cards, contractor payments, and approval workflows across thousands of active productions.
What Is SOC 1 Type 1 Certification?
SOC 1 (System and Organization Controls 1) is an auditing standard from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) that evaluates a service organization’s internal controls over financial reporting. It is distinct from SOC 2, which addresses data security, availability, and confidentiality. SOC 1 is specifically concerned with the controls that protect the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and it is the standard that enterprise clients, studios, and financial auditors look for when a vendor is handling their money or their books.
For productions using Saturation, that scope is broad. The platform manages the full financial lifecycle: production budgets, actuals fed from FDIC-insured bank accounts and Visa expense cards, contractor and vendor payments sent by ACH and wire, purchase orders tracked against committed costs, and cost reports generated for studios, financiers, and production companies. SOC 1 certification validates that the internal controls governing all of that financial activity are properly designed.
Type 1 certification evaluates control design at a specific point in time. It confirms that the right safeguards exist and are structured appropriately. SOC 1 Type 2, which Saturation is pursuing next, extends the assessment over a minimum six-month period to verify that those controls operate effectively and consistently, not just at a snapshot.
Productions trust Saturation with their budgets, their banking, and their payments. SOC 1 alongside SOC 2 means that trust is backed by independent verification, not just our word for it.

What the Certification Covers
The SOC 1 Type 1 audit evaluated the design of Saturation’s internal controls across the core areas of the platform where financial reporting integrity is at stake: budget version control and access management, actuals ingestion from connected bank accounts and expense cards, Saturation Pay contractor and vendor payment processing, purchase order approval workflows, and cost report generation. Auditors assessed controls related to financial data accuracy, change management, and logical access, confirming that the safeguards governing each of these workflows are appropriately designed. The audit was conducted in accordance with AICPA attestation standards by an independent CPA firm.
The certification sits alongside Saturation’s existing security stack: SOC 2 Type 1, TLS 1.2+ and AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, enterprise SSO, multi-factor authentication, annual third-party penetration testing, and continuous vulnerability scanning. FDIC-insured production banking and full audit trail visibility are built into the platform. The company’s full security and compliance program is detailed at saturation.io/security.
Saturation plans to pursue SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications as the next phase of its compliance roadmap, extending both programs from point-in-time design assessments into sustained operational reviews.
