Does a film production need its own bank account?

Usually, yes. Many independent films and series are produced through a single-purpose LLC formed for that one project, and that entity needs its own business account so investor money, incentive-eligible spend and vendor payments stay separate from the parent company and from other shows.

The account is opened in the LLC's name with its registration documents and tax ID, funded by equity, loans or the parent company, and used for everything the production pays: vendor invoices, deposits, card spend and crew reimbursements. Auditors, investors and tax incentive programs may all ask to see that the money moved through it cleanly, so the bank account and the budget need to tell the same story.

A standard business checking account knows nothing about the budget. Payments get approved by email, cards are shared, and someone matches the bank statement to the cost report by hand every week.

Saturation Pay is a US business account with its own routing and account numbers, opened inside Saturation by a registered US business after standard KYC and ownership verification. Applications typically process within 1 to 2 business days. Saturation is not a bank: the account runs on Stripe's infrastructure, and deposits are held at Fifth Third Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, insured up to $250,000. You fund it by ACH, wire or a direct transfer from a connected bank. Project allocations set a spending cap for each production, and project admins see only their own allocation. Allocations are caps, not separate accounts or reserved funds, so on their own they do not keep two legal entities' money apart. From the same account you issue debit expense cards, pay US vendors by ACH or domestic wire through your approval flows, and export statements as PDF or CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Saturation Pay is an integrated banking and expense management platform built for production companies. It includes a bank account with routing and account numbers, virtual and physical Visa expense cards, bill pay, and real-time budget tracking, all inside Saturation.

You can fund your account via ACH transfer, wire transfer, or a direct transfer from a connected bank account. Funds typically arrive within 1-2 business days for ACH and same day for wire transfers.

Yes. Your funds are held at FDIC-insured partner banks, not directly by Saturation, and are protected up to applicable limits. This means your money is stored with the same safeguards used by traditional financial institutions, giving you confidence that your funds remain secure, accessible, and properly handled at all times.

You can issue unlimited virtual and physical Visa expense cards at no additional cost. Each card can have its own spend limit, merchant category restrictions, and project allocation.

Yes. Project allocations let you set hard spend caps per project, department, or individual. Producers with role-based access see only the projects assigned to them, not company-wide finances.

Yes. Saturation integrates with QuickBooks for seamless accounting sync. Transactions, categories, and receipts flow directly into your accounting system without manual data entry.

Saturation Pay is included on the Pro, Team and Enterprise plans, with no monthly fee for the bank account or card issuance. Outgoing payments are billed per transaction: $0.50 per ACH payment and $15 per domestic wire.

Unlike a generic business bank account, Saturation Pay is purpose-built for production. It includes project-level allocations, production-specific expense categories, automatic budget tracking, receipt capture, and role-based access. Features no traditional bank offers.

In most cases, yes. A single-purpose LLC exists to keep one production's money, contracts and liabilities apart from everything else, and mixing its funds with the parent company's or another show's weakens that separation and makes audits and incentive reporting harder. In Saturation, project allocations cap spending per project inside one account, but they are not separate accounts or reserved funds, so they do not replace a separate account for a separate legal entity.

Saturation Pay is available to registered US businesses. You apply from the Banking section with business registration information, tax identification details and ownership verification documents, and every account goes through standard KYC checks. Applications typically process within 1 to 2 business days. There are no setup fees and no minimum deposit, but the account becomes active only after your first deposit. Owners, Admins and Accountants can use the core banking functions.

Yes. The account has real ACH and wire routing and account numbers, and Saturation support can coordinate a verification of deposit, bank letter, audit confirmation letter or proof of funds with the underlying bank. You can also export bank statements as PDF or CSV from the Funds page under Banking, and export full transaction history to CSV with project and category tagging.

Not currently. Outgoing payments go to US vendor bank accounts by ACH or domestic wire, and both typically process in 1 business day. ACH payments are billed at $0.50 each and domestic wires at $15 each. For crew or vendors paid abroad, use a separate payment route, then connect that account through Plaid so those transactions come into Saturation and can be coded to the budget.

Banking is just one part. The budget that plans the money, the expenses that spend it and the reports that explain it are the same system, not four tools wired together, so nothing has to be re-entered or reconciled between them.
