What is Production Intelligence?

Production Intelligence is Saturation's approach to AI, purpose-built for the unique workflows of film, TV, and commercial production. Unlike generic AI tools that generate content, Production Intelligence automates the operational side of production: the budgeting, actualizing, expense tracking, and financial reporting that consumes hours of your team's time every single day. It understands production-specific context like above-the-line vs. below-the-line categories, fringes, globals, and how money actually flows through a production.

Critically, your financial data never leaves your secure workspace. Saturation does not send your production budgets, actuals, or vendor information to third-party AI providers like OpenAI or Anthropic for processing. All intelligence runs within a closed-loop, SOC 2 compliant environment with bank-level encryption. Your data is never used as training data, never shared externally, and never exposed beyond your production company's workspace. You maintain full control over access, and permissions can be revoked at any time.

Think of it as having an extra coordinator, accountant, and analyst on your team. One that never sleeps, never makes a data-entry error, and learns how your production company operates. When it arrives this fall, you will be able to drop a folder of receipts and invoices and have it make a plan, scan each document, propose the budget account for every line item and wait for your approval before anything reaches your actuals. It connects to your accounting tools like QuickBooks so you're not doing the work twice. The result: days of wrap time compressed into minutes, real-time visibility into where every dollar is going, and the confidence to make faster financial decisions on set and in post.

Over 9,000+ integrations

Production Intelligence connects with the tools your team already relies on, from accounting and payroll to project management and communication.

What our customers are saying

“The financial operating system of our production company. From budgeting to P-cards, AI receipt scanning, and QuickBooks sync, it replaced five separate tools.”

What can AI do for film production finance today?

Today the most practical use of AI in production finance is reading paperwork: pulling the vendor, amount, date and line items off invoices and receipts so they become coded transactions and contacts. Drafting a whole budget from a script is the newer use, and Saturation's agent for that is not available yet. It arrives this fall.

AI film budgeting tools read a script or treatment, break it down into days, locations, cast and departments, and propose numbers from rates. A draft is only as good as its assumptions about shoot days, union agreements and locations, so a line producer still checks rates, fringes and the schedule. On the accounting side the problem is volume: hundreds of receipts and invoices a week, each needing a project, an account and a decision to count it as an actual.

General chat assistants can summarize a receipt, but they do not know your chart of accounts, your budget phases or which project a charge belongs to, and their output still has to be typed into the budget.

Available in Saturation now: upload an invoice in bill pay and Saturation extracts the vendor, amount, date, payment terms and line items for you to review. Drop a PDF or image receipt on an Actual cell in the budget to create and attach a transaction on that line, or itemize a charge from its attached receipt to split it across accounts. Drag W-9s or invoices onto Contacts to create or match vendor contacts. A transaction counts toward actuals once its Actualized toggle is on, so a person still confirms the coding. Arriving this fall: the agent that drafts a budget from a script or treatment, codes receipts and chases paperwork when you ask, with nothing applied until you approve it.

Frequently asked questions

Production Intelligence is Saturation's AI layer purpose-built for production workflows. It automates operational tasks like actualizing budgets, categorizing expenses, flagging budget overruns, and generating financial insights so your team spends less time on data entry and more time creating.

No. Production Intelligence is designed to augment your team, not replace them. It automates the repetitive legwork like scanning receipts, categorizing line items, and matching invoices to budget accounts, but always keeps your team in the loop with approval workflows. You still have full oversight and final say on every transaction.

Today, upload an invoice in bill pay and Saturation reads the vendor, amount, dates and line items for you to review, or drop a receipt on a budget line's Actual cell to create a transaction there; a transaction counts once its Actualized toggle is on. The agent arriving this fall will take a whole folder of receipts and invoices, propose the coding for each line and wait for your approval before posting to actuals.

Your financial data is never sent to third-party AI providers like OpenAI or Anthropic for processing. All AI runs within Saturation's closed-loop, SOC 2 compliant infrastructure with bank-level encryption. Your data is never used as training data, never shared externally, and is only accessible within your production company's secure workspace. You have full control over who can access your data, and permissions can be revoked at any time.

Generic AI tools require you to upload sensitive financial documents to third-party servers where your data may be used for model training or stored indefinitely. Saturation's Production Intelligence processes everything within your secure, private workspace. It also understands production-specific context like budget categories, fringes, and vendor relationships, so it delivers accurate results without the risks of exposing confidential production financials.

Yes. The Saturation MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, included on the Pro, Team and Enterprise plans, connects Claude and other MCP clients to your Saturation data with the same access as the API. You can also build your own tools on the REST API.

Budget actualization from receipts and invoices, expense categorization, split-actual line-item breakdowns, budget variance analysis, duplicate detection, approval routing, accounting sync preparation, and financial reporting. More capabilities are being added continuously.

Not at all. The AI features work through a simple chat interface. Just describe what you need in plain language, upload your files, and the agent handles the rest. For custom agent building, the tools are low-code and similar to platforms like Zapier.

Production Intelligence is an upcoming feature coming to Saturation. An official announcement is expected soon. Book a demo to learn more and be among the first to get access when it launches.

AI tools can draft one: they read the script or treatment, estimate days, locations and departments, and fill in rates. Saturation's agent, which drafts a budget from a script or treatment inside your budget, arrives this fall and is not available yet. Today you can start from a template, import an existing Movie Magic or Showbiz budget, and apply published and custom rates from your workspace rate packs.

No. Document scanning works now. In bill pay, upload an invoice first and Saturation extracts the vendor, amount, date, payment terms and line items for you to review. In the budget, drop a PDF or image receipt on an Actual cell to create a transaction on that line, or itemize a charge from its attached receipt. Each transaction counts toward actuals once its Actualized toggle is on.

Only as accurate as its assumptions. A draft built from a script has to guess shoot days, union status, locations and crew size, and a wrong input changes every department downstream. Treat an AI draft as a starting point: check rates against the agreements you will actually sign, apply fringes, and match the schedule before you share numbers with financiers or a studio.

Yes, through the Saturation API, when API access is available for your workspace. Create a key under Settings, then API keys, and call REST endpoints for projects, budgets, transactions, contacts, documents, purchase orders, workspace library data, search and webhooks. A key follows the access of the teammate who created it, so if their role or project access changes, the key changes with it, and a revoked key stops working.
