About Winnipeg Real to Reel
The Winnipeg Real to Reel Film Festival (WR2R) is a values-based festival founded by Paul Boge, now in its 17th year. The mission: screen cool, clean, and compelling films that encourage audiences toward positive values and a greater understanding of the human journey. Over 16 years, the festival has welcomed more than 58,000 attendees, and the 2026 edition drew 3,750 people across 49 films.
WR2R takes place every February at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A $10 pass covers 45-plus films across features, documentaries, shorts, and family programming. Filmmakers have traveled from Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, England, and across Manitoba to screen here. Notable guests have included Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager) and Kim Rhodes (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody).
What We Screen
WR2R screens films that are entertaining, original, insightful, uplifting, and encouraging. The festival does not screen films containing nudity, sexual acts, profanity, or gratuitous violence. Genres include drama, action/adventure, comedy, sci-fi, family, children’s, and documentary.
Recent Official Selections have included:
- Soul on Fire, Peace River, A Champion Heart
- Sound of Freedom, Human Trafficking: Canada’s Secret Shame
- Where the Cottonwoods Grow (documentary), Otto’s Obsession (local Manitoba filmmaker)
- Restoration: A Refugee’s Story, The Unbreakable Boy
After each screening, filmmakers or subject-matter experts join audiences for an open Q&A. "We have discussions at the end of each film. We have filmmakers or people who know about the topic who come and share," says festival founder Paul Boge.
