How much was Ryan Reynolds paid for R.I.P.D.?

Who directed R.I.P.D.?
Robert Schwentke directed R.I.P.D. from a screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, adapted from Peter M. Lenkov's Dark Horse comic. Schwentke was coming off the successes of Flightplan (2005) and RED (2010), and the R.I.P.D. failure pushed his next project, The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), in a more conservative direction.
What did critics think of R.I.P.D.?
The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews, holding a 12% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 192 critics and a 25 out of 100 score on Metacritic. Critics widely compared the film unfavorably to Men in Black, noting that R.I.P.D. used a near-identical odd-couple supernatural-police premise with significantly less wit.
Where was R.I.P.D. filmed?
Principal photography took place in Boston, Massachusetts, with additional photography in Connecticut. The production took advantage of the Massachusetts 25% film tax credit, which helped offset the heavy visual effects budget by anchoring practical shooting in a credit-friendly state.
Did R.I.P.D. get a sequel?
A direct-to-video prequel, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, was released in 2022 starring Jeffrey Donovan and Penelope Mitchell as younger versions of the Jeff Bridges character. The original cast did not return and the prequel had no theatrical release.
Why did R.I.P.D. fail at the box office?
Industry analysts pointed to weak marketing, hostile critical reception, audience confusion about the supernatural buddy cop premise, and direct comparison with Men in Black (which had set audience expectations for the genre 16 years earlier). The film's visual effects, while costly, drew criticism for cartoonish character designs that distracted from the practical action.
Is R.I.P.D. available on streaming?
The film is available for digital rental and purchase through Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Vudu, and rotates on various ad-supported streaming services. It is not currently a perpetual title on any major SVOD platform.
